Hardcore Hardware’s design of their MFK02-Gen II utility knife is remarkable in every way. Right off the bat, you feel the strength of the knife as well as an uncompromised balance from tip to handle. The blade is 6mm thick which runs the entire length of the knife. This makes the knife feel and handle more superior to that of similar knives in its competition. Using the knife in a multitude of operational settings, We found it to be very useful in prying and cutting various surfaces. The blade maintained a sharp edge and did not seem to affect the overall performance. The strength of the tip was remarkable in every way and the thickness of the steel itself makes this possible. Although the striking end was not used in any application (as of the testing period) the extended glass breaker seems like it could definitely do the job without hesitation or much force. Once again, the sheer size and weight of the knife is robust, with presence of wanting to be put to use.

The grip is textured and contoured enough to make the user feel comfortable that it will not slip out of the hand. Even with use after getting our hands wet both with the use of chemicals and/or water, the grip did not falter.

The knife was mounted to a thigh rig behind the service weapon. The size of the knife was not too bad, however being limited on real estate on a duty belt/MOLLE vest, there was no other mounting option. The MFK02G was a bit on the large side for thigh rig use, however came in very handy when grabbing for it and putting it to use. The handle is large enough to feel and the kydex molded sheath, which came with the knife, holds it in place without fear of it falling out or becoming loose. Putting the knife back in the sheath was effortless.

Overall, we give Hardcore Hardware’s MFK02G a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0. The Australian company did an outstanding job with the design and crafting of this solid piece of gear. We recommend anyone in the market for a knife of this quality, size and capability to seek out Hardcore Hardware.
